Pastoral Council
The Parish of Birr is divided into 14 electoral areas. Each area returned 8 members at the last Pastoral Council Election. These 8 members in turn elected one coordinator to represent their area on ‘The Executive’. This Executive meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, with a meeting of the entire council on an annual basis. The Pastoral Council is elected by distributing a ballot sheet to every house in the parish.
In addition to the 14 coordinators the Executive Council includes the Parish Clergy, representatives of the Liturgy Group, Finance Committee, Building Sub Committee and Marian Hall Committee.
The monthly meetings concern the day to day running of the Parish. There are also reports from the various committees named above. The Pastoral Council’s role is to identify the needs of a modern parish and to source the people/organisations to meet them.
The current officers are:
Chairperson: Paddy Duffy.
Vice-Chairperson: Pat O’Gorman.
Secretary: Brian Kennedy.
