Last week the Patrons representative Aoife Foley gave a presentation to all staff members in both schools on a proposal to Amalgamate both schools. This could lead to both our town schools joining together to make a new Co-educational National School. ( Boys and girls mixed).The proposal would be for the new school to be Catholic in denomination and remain under the Patronage of the Bishop of Killaloe. The draft timeline on this is September 2027.

It’s important to stress that this process of consultation was led by the Patron at the request of both Boards of Management and with support of the Parish. Both Principals along with Chairpersons have held numerous meetings and consulted with Patron and Parish to this point of the process.

The Patron plans to hold a Parent Consultation Meeting for parents of both schools in January 2026. Details will be announced prior to Christmas.

In the meantime we ask our parishioners to please keep both school communities in your thoughts and prayers as they take the time to consider the future of their primary schools and what primary education will look like in Birr in the next 5 / 10 / 20 / 50 years.
